NYC grade 7 math test: dates, results and what it means for promotion

New York City Public Schools list the grades 3 to 8 math test for May 4 to 14, 2027, on computer. Families see results in their NYC Schools Account, and promotion is decided by the principal from many pieces of student work.

Facts checked against NYSED pages on October 25, 2026.

NYC's page says schools choose two consecutive days within its window, and that all students in grades 3 to 8 take the ELA and math tests by computer. Your school confirms its exact days. For what that format looks like, see computer or paper.

Seeing your child's result

NYC Public Schools say families can see state test results on the My Student page of the NYC Schools Account, once the account is linked to your child. If you need help with the account, contact your child's school. The report gives a scale score and one of four levels. What Level 1 means and what the scale scores mean explain the numbers.

Promotion

NYC's promotion page says schools review many pieces of student work to decide whether a child is ready for the next grade. For grades K to 8 the principal makes the decision, and a child who may not be ready is assessed through a portfolio of English and math work. The page does not mention state test scores. Ask your school which measures it uses.

If your child scored Level 1

  • Ask the school whether your child qualifies for academic intervention services in math. For 2026-27 the state's screening line for grade 7 is a scale score of 440.
  • Ask which skills to practise at home.
  • Find the specific missing skills before drilling grade 7 problems: your 7th grader scored Level 1.
